My name is Jason Pennini. I was a Pro Scout with Minnesota Twins for three seasons. Before that, I covered Indy Ball as an Associate Scout for the Milwaukee Brewers, and I also co-founded Prospects Live. The Arizona Complex backfields are a second home to me.
About the Site
Complex Baseball has big goals. I want to shine a spotlight on rookie ball in a way that hasn't been done before. This level of MiLB is great! I love seeing young players—whether they're high-bonus domestic draftees or $10K international signees—and trying to figure out what they might become. There is something so intellectually rewarding about deep diving into something and learning everything you can about it — then trying to synthesize all that information into a prediction. That is the core of Complex Baseball.
The site's mission goes beyond just player evaluation. I want it to be an intersection for this niche of the internet, where prospect fans, MLB personnel and player dev enthusiasts can all find a useful resource. If done right, readers should not just learn about the prospects, but how to go about evaluating players themselves. I believe good process leads to good results. Player eval at rookie ball level is incredibly hard, and I will be wrong about a lot of things. The point is not to be right 100% of the time; it is to paint a picture with the best available information right now. If we were wrong, let's look back. Was there something broken with the process? How can we do better next time?
Complex Baseball has notes from the field, videos and runs nightly cron jobs to keep fans up to date with the latest news on the complex. I look forward to giving you all the best coverage that I can. Thank you for reading.
